First of all I would like to take the time and thank everyone for the birthday wishes this past Saturday. I enjoyed spending time with my family and friends on my birthday.

I also want to thank my Constituency Assistant, Michael Simms, on his hard work this past year. Michael left my office on Friday. He provided a great service to the constituents of Calgary McCall and I am certain he will continue to do so in his future endeavours.

I am also excited to announce that I have hired a new Constituency Assistant, Aman Hayer. Aman is a University of Calgary Graduate and Calgary McCall Resident. He previously served as the Constituency Assistant to my colleague Kent Hehr in Calgary Buffalo. Although Aman has big shoes to fill, I am sure he is up to the task.

Despite the fact that I was in the legislature for most of this past week, I did get an opportunity to spend sometime in the riding. On Friday, I attended the Gala Fundraiser at John XXIII School. At the fundraiser I donated a pair of cuff-links and a denim jacket to the silent auction. I also placed a bid on a new leather jacket and won. I had a great time meeting with the parents and teachers at John XXIII School.

On Saturday, I attended Calgary’s Annual Sikh Parade (Nagar Kirtan). The weather was absolutely wonderful. It gave me the opportunity to meet with many constituents of various different backgrounds. It also gave me the opportunity to enjoy lots of great food.

Also on Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend the Falconridge/Castleridge Volunteer appreciation banquet. I was able to meet many of the hardworking and dedicated volunteers who make our community such a vibrant and great place to live.

Saturday as well, I attended the PSA sports awards, where I presented a plaque to Michelle Lane for her excellent work. Michelle is a figure skater in our community. Michelle won a gold medal for free skating and a silver medal for interpretative skating at the Alberta Star Skate Championships. Michelle also is a multitasker who volunteers her time for organizations such as canskate. On top of all that she is a mother. I am glad to see this hardworking individual in my riding.

During this next week, I will be back in the legislature. I will bring forward many of the concerns which I heard from my constituents to the legislature. These concerns include, but are not limited to, the economic recession and the airport tunnel.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely Yours,

Darshan Kang MLA

Calgary McCall
