Service Alberta: Youth Poster Contest

The job of a portfolio critic is not just to critisize, but to raise awareness. And this is a great contest put on by Service Alberta that young people need to be aware of.

If you are between 15 and 18 years old, you can enter the Alberta Consumer Champions Award Youth Poster Contest, put on by Service Alberta. For more details, the entry form, and the topics, please visit the Service Alberta website at this link: http://www.servicealberta.ca/1295.cfm

Good luck!

Transportation: Bicycling in Calgary and the rest of the province

In my role as Transportation Critic, and representing Calgararians, I know that one way to get the most out of our roads and highways is to encourage alternative transportation.

While bicycling is often seen as a municipal concern, anyone who has evem just driven to Bragg Creek knows that bicyclists do not just stick to the inner city – they travel everywhere, the highways, the back country, provincial parks.

Calgary Cycle Chic is a website that shows that bicycling is not just done by people in athletic wear. Bicycling is a practical method of transportation for many situations.

Calgary Cycle Chic

The Calgary Herald did a story on this website. They talk about its history and other Cycle Chic websites around the world.

And if you are not feeling comfortable with bicycling in the city, there are classes you can take to become more skilled and feel better about bicycling near cars.

These classes are next being offered on Sept. 17, Oct. 15, and Nov. 12, 2011.

And if you want to get really far away from cars, please visit the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park. They have over 100 km of mountain bike trails.
